1989 - 1992 research assistant at the Institut für Bevölkerungsforschung und Sozialpolitik der Universität Bielefeld (Population Research and Social Policy Department of Universität Bielefeld)

1993 - 2000 assistant at the German Science and Humanities Council. Foci: higher education planning, medical programmes at universities, evaluation of higher education institutions and non-university research institutes, development of the tertiary education sector (e.g. Fachhochschulen and technical colleges), and relations between the higher education system and the labour market.

Activity focus at CHE Consult:

Main activities in following areas: ranking, performance indicators, evaluation and quality assurance. Within the ranking, focus on indicators related to the relevance of study programmes in relation to the labour market as well as coordination of the international expansion of the CHERanking. In 2010 he was elected as Vice-President of IREG Observatory on Academic Rankings and Excellence
