Set of indicators to manage internationalisation processes
In a cooperation project, the CHE has defined 186 indictors and performance figures as a way of presenting performance in the field of internationalisation. According to their own particular situation and needs, higher education institutions may compile individual sets of indicators to adequately present internationalisation strategies and to understand development processes.
The paper on internationalisation indicators is now also available in English.
The CHE’s partners co-operating in this project were Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, TU Berlin, Fachhochschule Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven and Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
Internationality plays an important role for higher education institutions: international co-operation in research is becoming more significant, German students are more mobile than ever and more graduates are presenting themselves on the global job market. In this situation it is crucial for higher education institutions to develop strategically and to manage the field of internationalisation in a professional manner. The presented set of indicators offers essential support in this endeavour.
The indicators comprise input and output factors for higher education studies and teaching as well as research but they also cover more general aspects. The indicators as a whole are a comprehensive foundation for several selection options in order to find suitable combinations for different needs and strategies. The CHE paper can be downloaded at no extra fee. Some of the indicators may also be used for higher education comparison, such as the CHE-university ranking.
The project is based on the experience of the co-operating partners, whose different perspectives – namely those of a large public university, of a technical university, of a Fachhochschule on several sites and that of a private university - ensure that the indicators are adequate for different types of higher education institutions.
